One my Fashion resolutions this year, apart from starting a blog, was - "Donning more dresses". And so there was I, in early spring, on a dress-buying spree. The stores were out with their freshest of spring collections, you could get dresses in your size and well it was a dull spring Saturday afternoon ..perfect time to wind up at a mall, right?
After moving to Virginia, I was waiting for the right occasion to wear my new splurges and there it was ..when one of my friends threw a ‘chatover chaat’ party - chat as in talk and chaat as in the famous street-side spicy-tangy food in India
The food was just heavenly!! We had vada-paavs (indian burgers stuffed with spicy potato pattie), samosa-chole (chole as in chick-pea curry),ragda-pattice, bhel (spicy mixture of puffed rice and tangy chutneys very thoughtfully put in cute gold-colored to-go boxes)
And of course there were drinks, Turkish tea in little cups, mimosas, wine. And well a lot of chit-chat. I must say it was a very well put together and thoughtful menu and I enjoyed every bit of it. I am looking forward to many such chat n chaat times ;))
This is what I wore to the girl’s night out – my new dress from Old navy. I dig the abstract design, darker color tones, the square neck with smocking details and ruffles on shoulder. I really do love square neck tops/dresses. I wish there were more of these available instores.
Here's why, I think, square neck dresses/tops are better:
1) Give a structure to your neck area.
2) Attract attention to your upper half (for pear-shaped gals like me, this is a winner!)
3) and lastly, you can accessorize such dresses/tops with stand-out necklaces and earrings.
So if you see one, grab that square neck top/dress.
Well, getting back to my outfit, I accented the dress with my stretchy brown belt and nude patent pumps.
(Quick tip: adding a belt that is wide and preferably in a nude color, like black/brown, can transform the look of the complete outfit. It also helps to accentuate your narrow waist. Give it a try!)

I didn’t realize then (was quite in a hurry to dash out) but now that I look back at these pictures, the ring, the bag and even my nails are just bang on matchy-matchy with the dress..not too bad, eh?
I did straighten my horribly-fizzy hair so they are primp and proper and behave themselves in public. So hope you like the 'straightened-hair' look on me, what do you think?
How do you dress up for a girl’s night out? Pitch in any fun gals night out ideas.
Dress - Old Navy
Brown Belt, necklace and silver earrings - NY and Company
Ring - Pier 1 Imports (yes! they sell exquisite rings at a home decor shop)

Candid cam - Husband clicking away merrily while I am making last min checks before heading out

ReplyDeleteDresses are so much fun for a girls night out! We just had a girls night on Friday, but while everyone opted for dresses, I paired colored skinny jeans with a tank and denim vest.
