To the border and back..

It’s been literally ages that I penned blogged about my travels. As you may know from here and here that J & I visited the scenic So-Cal (Southern California). We were down there for 5 days total, 2&1/2 days equally in LA and in San Diego. This is a quick travel and outfit post on our last few hours in the sunny city of San Diego (SD) and a day trip to the scenic beaches of LA.

SD is closer to the southern most point of the western coast of the US and so inadvertently closer to the border of Mexico. We decided to take the road to the International border (with no intentions of crossing it!) and then head towards the premium outlets that has the Mexican territory on the other side of its boundary walls. It was exciting enough to drive down towards the border, with road signs constantly blaring to not miss the last US exit (in case you were not planning to cross the border). We got a sneak peek into the Mexican territory and I tell ya, the backdrop looked starkly different. The pic above was at the outlets and you can spot the Mexican flag fluttering in the background. We spent some time window-shopping and then headed to LA.

The drive to Laguna Beach was a not a long one till we hit the inside roads to Laguna; then it was a mess! Loads of traffic and parking hassles as usual! The beach itself is lovely and very family-friendly. We shared a pizza-n-soda on a bench by the beach for a lunch with a view. We had already been to so many beaches in LA and SD that, J was not in a mood for a dip in the waters, but I was pretty excited (as you can probably see from the pics) for some splish-splash in the cool waters. The roads to the beach were charming with surf board shops, local art and jewelry shops and some cool dining places. I would definitely want to go back to the Laguna Beach!

Next stop was the famous Indian neighborhood in LA in the city of Artesia! We had a sumptuous tea and snacks in Surti Farsan mart (farsan marts are so common in Mumbai that I was excited to see on here in the US). The décor was classy and the food finger-licking good. I had suralichi wadi aka khandvi (a savory roll made of chick-pea flour and garnished with coconut, coriander and mustard-seed-tadka) …oh and it was pure heaven! We had Jalebis (that were fresh and crispy), Dryfruit barfis and packed lots of farsan, shev for home.
Final destination of the day was the posh Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive neighborhood! I just only wanna say that its a (window)-shoppers paradise and a of course a must-see place in LA :)
Well, its a wrap now, hope you enjoyed reading about our sojourn in SoCal! Enjoy the pics!!
