2013 Outfits in Recap - Q3

Summer this year was divided between two countries - India and U.S.. While travelling and visiting the fam in India, you hardly get time to document your outfits. But still, I was able to coax my family members (especially my dad) who sweetly obliged to take outfit pictures for the blog. I did a separate post about my outfits during the India trip.

But between all the frenzy, I was able to do an outfit photo-shoot in India thanks to a dear blogger friend - Shubhi from Fairytale Style. It was so much fun shooting with a blogger; a lot different than the shoots with my husband but nonetheless it was super fun and absolutely memorable with the rain and what-not!

Dressing up for summer, in the US, was filled with colors and of course white. I added white pants to my summer wardrobe this year and (like an excited kid) flaunted them this summer, one two many times. There's an Indian outfit there too, in the summer edition, which added to my colorful-summer stint. So what's your fave summer outfit, mine is the Floral-shirt-and-White-pants one!

P.S.: Also if you notcied, I had a sleek new hairstyle now, thanks to my new hair-straightening experiment at the Lakme Salon. I think it was one my best style-moments of the year! Dunno why I was so wary of getting it done. I highly recommend it to someone who struggles with big voluminous, frizzy and wavy hair.

2013 Outfits in Recap - Q2

Recapping the outfits from one of the cheerful times of this year - Spring of 2013. Looking back, I definitely donned more fun and colorful outfits from this year. For me I think it was the most successful and creative time from fashion blogging perspective.

And by success I mean one of my long-time dreams came true - one of my outfits got picked to be featured on The New York Times website. Taste of Sweet Success, I tell ya :)

2013 Outfits in Recap - Q1

Well, well ,well, we are almost at the end of Twenty-Thirteen and this is the perfect time to pause, rewind and review the year that has been (and you know I am talking about my outfits, right?)..JK in general, I think it's always a good idea to sit down with a hot cup of coffee/tea or whatever lifts your spirits and helps you focus and think about what went well and what went down this year! Personally, I can't help but be done with this year and welcome the new year! What about you?

For the outfit-review posts, I have decided to do them quarterly..much easier and quicker with the approaching deadline..teeeheee)

Neon in November

Yep, Neon in November...and as you can guess from the title of this post, I am around four days late in publishing this outfit post. But, life got in between! Well, for those of you who follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen this outfit. I got a such a wild response on the IG pic that I decided to go ahead and do an outfit post on the blog. I tell you, sometimes the outfits I post on my IG feed outshine those I post on the blog. (One of these days, I feel like doing an IG outfit blog, but the pic quality is not up to the mark so, I am a little hesitant to pursue that idea.)

Anyways, back to the outfit! It was one of the warmer days in November that I decided to don my bright neon tunic. Keeping in mind the dull winters, I paired it with a black blazer to cover up the in-your-face-flashing colors. Regular denims and booties completed the outfit. The tunic is one of my finds from the famous bargain markets in Bombay - Crawford Market. It's right in the heart of the city, buzzing with hawkers,shoppers and lots of activity. You get such fabulous things there for dirt cheap prices, I tell you! And it's just not clothes, you have accessories, shoes, home decor things, kitchen and plastic furniture items, spices, cloth market...you name it and they have it!

P.S.: The title of the post could very well have been - Street Shopping Finds! I snagged that neon necklace from another of my fave shopping joints in downtown Bombay - Colaba Causeway. It's the Holy Grail of street shopping in the busy city and it's right beside the famous Taj Mahal Hotel and the Gateway of India. You have to visit Colaba Causeway if you are in the area.

Ireland - The Emerald Isle (Part 2)

Hey so I am back with the much-awaited (!?) part deux of my trip to the Emerald Isle. If you missed reading the part one, you can do that here. The trip to Cliffs of Moher was on the later half of my one-day trip around the Irish countryside. After lunching at a pub in the cute little village of Doolin, we headed down to these magnificent nature-made structures.

The Cliffs of Moher are Ireland's number 1 tourist attraction (so the tour guide informed us). Most recently, they were in the news for their appearance in the Harry Potter movies. One of the scenes from the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was filmed right here at the Cliffs. So there you go, a little movie trivia made this place even more exciting for me to visit!

The majestic cliffs of Moher overlooking the beautiful blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The cliffs are around 200 mt (702ft.) in height and you can walk along the length of the cliffs.

The skies around Dublin and almost over all the Ireland are always cloudy. It rains a lot there, thanks to the currents from the Atlantic Ocean..

This is a stone round structure called the O'Brien's Tower. It was primarily used as a watchtower in the olden days.

You can actually sit by the edge of the cliffs, that was quite dangerous but nevertheless exciting. They have absolutely no fencing along the 8km long walkway.

 Time to fly back home...it was a pleasure flying Aer Lingus!

 Well, well! While flying over Greenland, the captain announced that owing to clear skies (which is very rare) we were presented with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. It was one of the breath-taking things I have ever seen..almost like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

So, there was my truly magical day out in typical Irish countryside. I have to admit it was kinda odd being a lone traveler...I surely missed my hubs back in the States. Next time, hopefully, the two of us make it out to this beautiful country. 

Anyhow, I would highly recommend visiting Ireland and get to know the Gaelic culture and the happy-go-lucky people out here!

PC Style

The Indian Fashion Blogger community hosted an Instagram challenge last month. As a part of the Fashion Icon theme the other day, I posted this pic of fave stye diva! And then I thought to myself, why hadn't recreated this look? I had a similar pair of denims and top and shoes too.

This girl, by the way, totally rocks by the way, day in day out she looks fab, and her impeccable dressing style is to die for - She rocks the traditional Lehengas, Manish Malhotra Anarkalis (may I add, that they are a B-town uniform now, which by the way have started to become yawn-inducing), saris varying from kanjeevarams to sexy net saris. And with the same panache, she carries of the mini skirts, Red Carpet Gown looks, colored denims and so much more. I think it would be safe to say that before Sonams and the Deepikas, PC was the IT girl in the B-town Fashion world.

So here you go, Today I am pulling a page out of fashion icon's lookbook. Today, I am doing it PC style!

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)

Recently, I read this book, which is actually quite talked about in the social circles these days. The book is actually good, very candidly written and is absolutely funny read. It's a straight insight to her life, from a chubby kid/ teenager to a struggling actor/ nanny/ assistant to a very successful comedian writer/ actor in hit TV series. I am sucker for real life success stories, and this one fits the bill. 

She's like the everyday girl; her habits, stories, are so relateable. Mindy has made lot of references to her early days in New England, especially the areas where I have lived like my first five years in the US (which really connected well with me). Her days in NYC are one adventure to read esp the part where shes babysitting a couple of girls. She totally reaffirms my belief that Life in NYC is ALWAYS HAPPENING!

The best part of the book for me was her career as one of the writers for The Office. I am a huge fan of all the characters - Michael Scott (played by Steve Carrell) at the top - and she dishes out the behind-the-scenes stories, especially her frenemy Dwight aka Rainn Wilson and her buddies B. J. Novak, Angela and Pam. I got so nostalgic after finishing the book that I got back to watching The Office till the very last episode (I had 2-3 seasons still left from the pack). I was short of being teary-eyed when Michael Scott left, Jim and Pam lovey bits and the very last episode. I am not sure if it will be as entertaining to read the book if you haven't watched The Office. Well, Ms. Kaling does reaffirm the theory that you gotta be yourself to make it.

Moving to the Outfit of the Day, I wore this look to a Stella and Dot Trunk show hosted by fellow DC fashion blogger Karen in honor of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Blazers for fall, now that's a no-brainer, ain't it?

~* Happy Diwali *~

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Diwali! May the colors of Rangoli and the sound of crackers be just a start to a year full of colorful joys, happy moments and unlimited fun!

Onto my Diwali inspired outfit post, I wore this beautiful Anarkali dress to a Diwali shindig at a friend's place last weekend. What I love about an Anarkali, is the amount of the rich fabric weaved into the dress...gives a perfect flare to it. Makes me feel like an Indian princess, which was perfect 'cause Halloween was in the same week as Diwali..two birds in one stone, eh? :)

Bee-tee-w, I can't believe I am posting right in the middle of Diwali festivities! I dunno how (!!) but, I am get super-energetic and enthusiastic during the Diwali time. So, I was always gonna find time to blog along with making Diwali goodies, diya decorations, cooking lunches and dinners (and potlucks), ironing saris/ suits and dressing up of course (my most favorite thing about Diwali).
Well, a blogger gotta do what she gotta do, right? ;)
